Her struggle with acne since adolescence was uncomfortable and frustrating. With a strong interest in science and natural wellness, Melodie was determined to discover what was going on at the skin level that would lead her to resist the countless products she had tried for over a decade.
As Melodie began to understand her skin, she learned more about plant-based ingredients that have been used ritually in the hot, sunny southern Italy region for centuries.
She decided to take matters into her own hands and create a custom formula inspired by Sicilian botanical traditions. She was amazed by the abundance of fresh fruits and herbs growing there and the link between her family’s bountiful Mediterranean diet and health.
A Skin Love Story
Each bottle of Curù Skin contains the story of our founder’s Italian roots and her personal battle with acne. Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Melodie spent summers visiting family in Sicily where she absorbed their rich traditions and way of life.
“After adopting what I had learned from my family’s lifestyle and traditional Sicilian ingredients, I found that there were so many powerful benefits of these botanicals. I knew there had to be a connection between the Mediterranean way of life and skin health.”
After much research and testing, she arrived at a combination of 13 plant ingredients rooted in tradition and supported by modern science. To ensure the best possible quality, she worked directly with harvesters in Italy to carefully source the ingredients. The after sun product was born.
Armed with her family’s wisdom—conventional to them, but a revelation for Melodie—she spent the next four summers experimenting with various ingredient blends. Once home in Canada, further research led her to additional ingredients chosen for all skin types and sensitivities. She focused not only on creating a blend for her own acne-prone skin, but for other conditions including her mother’s sensitive skin and her sister’s eczema.
