Surviving Summer in Italy

Our six sun tips, visualized by some of the best to capture the essence of Summer in Italy.

No. 1

Prep, Protect, Repeat.

Valentina Barabuffi / @valentinabarabuffi

It goes without saying — prepare the skin for sun exposure providing deep hydration, followed by mineral sun protection and reapplication throughout the day. Always restore + hydrate the skin at the end of the day, even if there are no signs of a burn.

No. 2

Hydration + Fruit

Leandro Colantoni / @leandrocolantoni

Not a fan of extra baggage? Us too. But fresh water and seasonal fruit is like gold and worth the extra weight in your bag. Shop from local fruit vendors before you start your day and carry a reusable water bottle you can refill and keep cool. Having snacks on hand will make time spent under the sun more bearable. If the heat starts to get to you, seek shade. You'll be glad you packed a peach.

No. 3

“Don’t forget your hat!”

Leandro Colantoni / @leandrocolantoni

Don't underestimate the power of a hat and other protective clothing like sunglasses and a fine linen shirt, especially if touring when the sun is strongest (10am - 4pm). This will not only help to protect your skin, but aid in keeping your body temperature down. Consider a trendy pair of sneakers when possible. This can help make getting from point A to point B a breeze.

No. 4

L’ombrellone

Leandro Colantoni / @leandrocolantoni

Don't think twice. You need one. You can find them for purchase in any beach town shop, most supermarkets. You can also rent a beach bed and umbrella for fee at private beaches and clubs.

No. 5

Il pisolino

Valentina Barabuffi / @valentinabarabuffi

Its your Dolce Vita era. Head in for lunch to refresh, cool down, sip a cold coffee and indulge in a little afternoon nap when the sun's rays are the strongest. It doesn't get any more “Dolce Far Niente” than this.

No. 6

Un bagno, at sunset

Melodie / @curuskin

The magic of an evening swim at sunset. On those really hot days, save sightseeing for the early morning, head in for afternoon pasta-making classes, galleries and museums. Instead of missing a day at the sea, this leaves time to experience the magic of an evening spent seaside, swimming at sunset. The reflection of the sun sparkles in a new way, and paints magical silhouettes of families, lovers and friends enjoying each other's company.
